The Winds of Elul Are Blowing
What Is One Change You Would Like To Make This Year?
The winds of Elul are blowing – can you feel them? The Jewish month of Elul has a very special spiritual energy for fixing past mistakes, clearing out the dust and stains of actions and behaviors that don’t reflect who we really want to be, and creating a new closeness with G-d.
The spiritual power of the month of Elul is explained by a beautiful parable given by Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the first Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch:
“Once each year, a very mighty king leaves his palace, his guards, his finery, and goes out into the field to meet with his subjects. At that time, they can ask of him anything they wish. They do not need to wait in long lines, go through security checks, be announced ceremoniously. They can speak with him without hesitation. When the king returns to his palace, his subjects will once again have to go through all kinds of protocol to meet with him. So, of course, his subjects make the most of the opportunity.”
Imagine for a moment how difficult it would be for you to meet for an hour with the president of the United States. Not so easy. During the month of Elul, G-d is “in the field.” We don’t need to go through all kinds of red tape to reach the Master of the entire universe! We need only to come out to meet G-d, as it were, with a humble heart, and the King of all Kings will listen to us. G-d will accept our repentance and consider our requests most carefully.
The King will soon be in the field. Make sure not to miss this opportunity! With G-d’s help, the Holy Sparks Elul Collection will help you make those changes you’ve been meaning to make and show you how to focus on the four steps of teshuva (returning to the path of G-d).

ELUL
From a class by Rabbi Chaim Zev Citron
”Elul is the time to think about
what you want to accomplish on Rosh Hashanah.”
“Real Teshuva (repentance) is finding one thing
that you can really truly change.”
“The joy comes when we return everything back to holiness.
How much the holiness affects you depends
on how much you prepare for it.”
“Before you do anything, think about what
you are trying to accomplish by doing it.”
“What you want, you’ll get.
If you want closeness to G-d, you’ll get it.
You will be able to reach beyond
what you could get on your own.”

I would like to become a happier person. My depression has gotten worse since my father died, my mother was diagnosed with dementia, my boyfriend became abusive toward me and my health took a dive (I have Lupus). I need things to change in my life and to become happier.

I guess the tiny step that would help me to make that change would be a therapist who is kind and understanding and really listens. My last therapist stopped seeing me immediately after my father’s death, he couldn’t be bothered to see me and help me with my sadness.
One tiny step I could make to find a therapist is to call 1-800-Life-net. They can locate therapists for you no matter if you have insurance or what kind you have so that even if your insurance runs out, you can still be seen.

The Jewish people have a deep reverence for the name of G-d, so much so, that we have a custom of not spelling it out completely, in case it should fall on the ground or be erased, G-d forbid.
