Passover Quotes About Chometz

0

How can you let more light into your life?

Well, Passover is almost here, and we are in a frenzy of house cleaning
and preparations to eliminate every bread crumb (chometz) from
every corner of the house. During rest breaks, I’ve been listening to an
amazing lecture by Rabbi Reuven Wolf on the spiritual powers that
become available to us during Passover.

G-d willing I’ll have a new Artnotes page with Passover Soul Tips
ready for you next week – in fact, I’m working on a Passover Soul Kit
to help you squeeze the spiritual juice out of this powerful Festival of
Liberation – but in the meantime, check out a tidbit of Passover wisdom
in the Soul Tip below.

Inspirational Quotes

From Rabbi Shimon Raichik

“The point of cleaning for Pesach is to remember that we are leaving Egypt
leaving the things that constrict us spiritually.”

“Pesach is a time to leap over our limitations to serve G-d.”

This Week’s Soul Tip

When we clean for Pesach, we are searching for every bit of chometz,
every crumb of bread and grain that is inflated.
At the same time, we are searching for every bit of inflated ego,
every little bit of darkness in our souls
that is blocking G-d’s light from reaching us.

Cleaning for Pesach is making room for the Shechina (G-d’s Divine Presence)
in our homes and in our hearts. We are taking the chometz out of our houses
and out of ourselves. We are starting fresh and new.
When we are searching for chometz, we are really searching for light.

Here’s your Soul Adventure for today:

As you are preparing for Passover, search for any dark places in your soul.
When we search for chometz the night before Passover, we turn off all of
the lights and search with a candle, a feather and a wooden spoon.
We sweep up the chometz with the light touch of a feather.
We search for chometz – not with a harsh searchlight – but by subtle candlelight.

My ancestor, Rabbi Avraham Zacuto, who once helped to save the life of Christopher Columbus wrote, “Sometimes a small candle is better to look for holes and cracks than a great light.”

Searching for the darkness in our souls can be done with a similar light touch,
gently, compassionately searching for new places where we can let the light
of G-d into the cracks and crevices of our life.
