I hope all is well with you and that your spiritual preparations
for Rosh Hoshannah are going well during this special time of
“greeting the King in the field,” during the Hebrew month of Elul.
I received a curious note recently from a woman named Jenn,
and I would love to know what you think of it and how you
would respond to her. Jenn found my website and subscribed
to receive this “Soul Tips” artzine and received the first email
about talking to G-d, just like you did when you first signed up.
Then she immediately unsubscribed with the following note:
“G-D is not what i subscribed to..art and inspiring quotes yes
but not G-D, thanks anyway.”
When I read it, honestly, I felt a little insulted. I thought,
“How sad. What have you got against G-d?” Then I thought,
“Wow! Subscribing to G-d – what a fabulous idea – sign me up!”
At first I just deleted her email, but then I dug it out of the trash
because I realized that out of the darkness of one woman’s
alienation from G-d, we could create a lot of light.

Do an Accounting of the Soul
Set up a piece of ledger paper like the example
at the beginning of this email.
Under “Blessings,” include all of the good things
you have done, and all of the good things G-d
has done for you – include even the “smallest”
details such as smiling at someone, or being
able to breath or lift a finger.
Under “Mistakes,” list the mistakes you’ve made
in the past year, and the “mistakes” you feel G-d
has made.
Intuitively assign a numerical “credit” to each Blessing,
and a “debit” to each Mistake and see how your
spiritual accounting book adds up.
In the next edition of “Soul Tips,” G-d willing,
we’ll go over what to do about those mistakes.

his subjects will once again have to go through all kinds of protocol to meet with him.
So, of course, his subjects make the most of the opportunity.”
Imagine for a moment how difficult it would be for you to meet for an hour with the president of the United States.
Not so easy. During the month of Elul, G-d is “in the field.” We don’t need to go through all kinds of red tape
to reach the Master of the entire universe! We need only to come out to meet G-d, as it were, with a humble heart,
and the King of all Kings will listen to us. G-d will accept our repentance and consider our requests most carefully.

How sad! Are we so self-sufficient that we don’t need G-D in our lives. He certainly doesn’t need us. “G-D is not what i subscribed to…” Most certainly! I walk into in my garden to admire my flowers but inadvertently I’m inhaling the air there. I don’t want the air. Now how do I get rid of the air…there must be some way or is there? Whether u believe this or not, but all the inspiring quotes and art actually comes from GOD,we and even you are inspired by him everyday or else life would be meaningless. I understand why maybe you might feel pressured,but really just think about it, we are not here to tell you omg you did this sin now pay for it,NO! we are a community and we just do art and charity and beautiful things,and you do not have to read religious things you could just look at the art and quotes.

Reminds me of when I would volunteer at CSMC
would visit the Jewish patients
got the list from the Rabbi
and as the “Rabbi couldn’t be everywhere. . .”
Would enter a patient’s room and say
that Rabbi Mayer (a”h) asked me to visit you
Usually they would so welcome a visitor
an ear, a shoulder.
Only once was I summarily dismissed.
hardly had I said “Rabbi”
and the woman panicked,
screaming “Get out!”! “Get out”!
“I don’t want anything to do with rabbis!”
Perhaps she was afraid of what mistakes she might have made in her life
and didn’t want a “holy” man appraising her
How much more so when you are introducing G-d, her Maker.
