Here at Emek Hebrew Academy we’ve been developing an amazing Talent Center program for the last 10 years that we’d like to share with you. The Talent Center model features Extra Challenge Projects, which are independent, student-led service projects, based on a nine word curriculum:

We are writing grants and looking for schools to partner with us. Would you like some extra digital equipment for your school? Would you be interested in collaborating with classes at other Jewish Day Schools?

We hope to provide a video camera and a digital camera to produce projects and document all the amazing things that will unfold in your Talent Center program so that you can share them with the Talent Center Network and your own community.

We are also planning a 21st-century education Telesummit and trainings with leading educators, Torah scholars and business leaders and tech trainings customized to your needs.

How To Do an Extra Challenge Project

Our goal is to network with 50 partner schools to share and experiment with the best emerging practices, programs, and strategies of the 21^st century Jewish Day School.  We invite you to join with us to create a community of practice for classroom teachers, librarians, computer and other specialists, who will be Program Coordinators and participants at partner schools.

Emek Hebrew Academy (Los Angeles) is in its 7th year of developing an innovative Talent Center Model in our library that provides a safe, exciting and innovative space for children to explore their talents, interests. The goal of a Talent Center is to develop the capacity of all children for endless creativity and innovation by providing a stimulating, friendly and creative environment that serves as an incubator to foster their interests, talents and leadership abilities. Students of all ages use their favorite learning styles to learn at their own pace, and are completely in charge of what they learn. When they are ready, they know that they will have a supportive audience for the products and services they have created themselves. We run our program in 30 minutes a week, during recess and after school, without any additional personnel or funding. Find out how you can create a Talent Center at your school.
